Sub Branch Events
Come and join us in celebrate Gympie RSL Sub Branch’s 100th Birthday at Nelson Reserve on this Sunday, from 1.30pm. to 7pm. This is a free community event which includes family activities for both kids and parents, including military displays, performances by Australian Army PEP Band, raffles to benefit Legacy and more.
There will also be free amusement rides, side shows, free sausage sizzle, fairy floss and snowcones. Pat the animals in the petting zoo, get your face painted and enjoy the Laser Light Show to end this free Family Fun Day!

Sub Branch History
The Gympie RSLA Sub Branch Inc. received its charter in 1919 and has been in operation ever since. The Sub Branch has been in the location since 1948 and has its offices located on the lower level of the above building. As a service to Ex-Service personnel, the Sub Branch has a full time secretary, 9.00-2.00 week days. The Sub Branch also has welfare and pension officers. Bookings for interviews with these officers should be made through the office contact details are listed above.
Memorial Gates / Lane
The Memorial Gates and columns are located on the Mary Street end of the Memorial Lane. These gates were unveiled in 1920 and are now heritage listed. The names of locals who died during service in the Boer War and WW1 are listed on the columns.
Just behind these front columns are two more, listing the names of locals who died during service in WW11, Vietnam and Afghanistan. Further into the Memorial Lane are 9 ceramic murals and brass plaques depicting conflicts in which Australians have been involved.
Normanby Hill Remembrance Park
Normanby Hill Remembrance Park, Southside was officially opened in 1995 with two Granite columns showing images of service personnel.
There are 155 trees planted in the park with a plaque at the foot of each one showing the details of a local who died during service in WW11.
The Australian and Queensland State Flag Fly here continuously and each Anzac Day, a Service is held in this park at 6:15am
The Memorial Park was gifted to the community in 1919 with the rotunda being built in 1920. The Memorial Rock with a half circle wall is dedicated to those who served during the Korean, Malayan, Borneo and Vietnam Conflicts. This rock was unveiled in 1987 and has the names of two locals killed in Vietnam listed.
The 2nd Memorial Rock is dedicated to all those who served in National Service.
A Citizens meeting is held in the park at 11:00am each ANZAC Day.A Memorial Service is held in conjunction with Vietnam Veterans Day each Year within the park.
The Memorial Flame is located at the Reef Street end of the Memorial Lane and was unveiled in 2000. ANZAC Day dawn service is held her at 5:00am each year. The Remembrance Day service is held here at 10:30am each year.
During a short service a 6:00pm on the 24th April each year, the flame is lit, normally by a visiting dignitary, to burn for 36hrs. It is than lit to burn for 24hrs on the 11th November.
Behind the Memorial Flame in the lane is an area where memorial bricks, fixed to the walls displaying the details of those who have served and have since passed away. The number now stands at over 500.
The Australian and New Zealand Flag fly here continuously.
