Gerry joined the League in 2014 while posted to the Wide Bay Training Area in Tin Can Bay. Being at the end of his full time career with Defence, it afforded him the time to pay back into the system that had supported members of the Defence Force for near on 100 years.
He committed to nominating for a position on the committee, initially to monitor the Sub Branches memorabilia and gain experience in the administrative nuances of managing a Sub Branch. Gaining confidence within the committee he nominated for and was elected to the position of President in 2016. Gerry has participated as a member of a four man team from the Tin Can Bay Sub Branch in the 100Klm challenge. He is also a Welfare Officer for the Sub Branch. Gerry had a short break from full time service, however maintained his currency by transferring to the Active Reserves (9RQR).
Gerry has gained a plethora of qualifications while in Defence and civilian employment. All these skills, knowledge and experience are transferable to his current responsibilities. Gerry has recently retired from full time employment within Defence, reaching compulsory retirement after a 40 year career.
